Research Analyst

Position Summary:     
DT Institute is actively seeking two Research Analysts with a background in journalism, media monitoring, and/or conflict analysis. The selected candidates will support an analytical research project focused on Syria from our DC headquarters and/or Berlin office. Part-time or full-time for 3 months with probability of extension
Essential Functions:
  • Recruit, train, and manage data collection teams from the target country(ies) using the analyst’s own Arabic-language skills and in collaboration with a bi-lingual research manager;
  • Design, develop, and deploy survey instruments to local data collection teams;
  • Design, develop, and deploy tools for context monitoring through media monitoring, key informant interviews, and/or surveys;
  • Filter, “clean,” and code collected data;
  • Analyze data collected from surveys, key informant interviews, focus groups, and media monitoring;
  • Collaborate with data science partner to develop analytical dashboards and other data-driven products;
  • Write clear and precise analytical reports based on primary and secondary source data;
  • Identify new sources of data and methods to improve data collection, analysis, and reporting;
  • Prepare and review monthly and cyclical situation reports;
  • Collect project requirements, determine technical issues, and design reports to meet data analysis needs of donor/clients; and
  • Quickly respond to donor/client requests for information (RFI).
Education & Experience:                                                                        
Bachelor’s degree with 1-4 years’ experience in journalism, media monitoring, and/or conflict analysis;
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Excellent English writing ability;
  • Deep understanding of the political context in Syria and the wider region;
  • Strong communication skills, as the analyst filling this position shall have an open line of communication with the clients with whom they work;
  • Adept at fielding RFIs, various inquiries, report writing and presenting findings;
  • Ability to quickly learn technical concepts and communicate with multiple functional groups;
  • Arabic Proficiency (including Modern Standard Arabic and Levantine dialect) required;
  • Experience performing data quality analysis and assessments of data accuracy;
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledgeable in a variety of mobile data collection systems; 
  • Advanced analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of qualitative and quantitative information with attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Up to 20% international travel expected.
